Inspiration
Bullying is common everywhere and no one openly speaks about it. As some are afraid that the world will judge or because they are scared of the bully. At no cost should someone tolerate bullying or bully someone else. But even after so many precautions and measures taken by schools, universities and offices, people do often experience bullying.
7 out of 10 people are bullied once in there lifetime and you would be shocked after knowing how many were actually reported. Only 2 out of those 7. So to make sure that those 5 people are not left unheard. We built BruinBuddy which is a specially trained chatbot which ensures that the user is taken care of with empathy, love and care.
What it does
BruinBuddy is not only built to provide comfort and open platform to communicate freely but it also ensures that it will provide you with enough insights and wisdom to tackle instances like bullying on your own while promoting individuality, confidence and standing up against the wrong.
How we built it
Our own friendly neighbourhood BruinBuddy was built in collaboration with Gemini AI, Reflex, .tech domain and with lots of hope to help others and stand against bullying. We trained BruinBuddy among many top selling self help books and various ways to make sure that the user feels comfortable talking around them while learning how the user feels, thinks and reacts. So that BruinBuddy could give personalised recommendations and life lessons.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge was to integrate Gemini AI with Reflex. This was our first time using either of the applications. We have played a lot with chatGPT, bard and other AI's but this was the very first time that we built something meaningful. Something that will prevent people from feeling lonely, feeling unheard, feeling hurt- BruinBuddy will ensure that its user is comfortable talking about there feelings, while showing empathy, care and support.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we have a fully functional and trained BruinBuddy which will create a impact on many lives all over the world. And because it was build at UCLA under the spirit of Bruins so we are naming it BruinBuddy.
What we learned
We learned very valuable skills such as how to fine tune the AI, how to use AI to solve real world problems.
What's next for BruinBuddy
We are planning to take BruinBuddy to all schools and colleges and promote it among anti-bullying squads or organisations which will help us make BruinBuddy more tuned towards self-help. And keeping BruinBuddy free for lifetime so every person weather in school, college or in office could utilise it, is the motto!
