Inspiration

Our inspiration to start a non-profit organization focused on providing underprivileged communities with technology stems from the recognition of the profound impact that technology can have on individuals and communities. In today's society, access to technology has become a basic necessity, allowing people to connect, learn, and participate in the world around them. Unfortunately, not everyone has equal access to these resources, which creates a digital divide that perpetuates inequality and poverty.

We were inspired to take action and address this issue because we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to use technology to improve their lives and reach their full potential. By providing underprivileged communities with technology and the resources to effectively use it, we aim to level the playing field and give people the tools they need to succeed. Our non-profit organization is dedicated to bridging the digital divide and making technology accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or financial situation.

In addition to providing access to technology, we also aim to educate and empower individuals and communities on how to effectively use it. By doing so, we hope to create long-lasting and sustainable change that will benefit generations to come.

Our goal is to create a world where everyone has equal access to technology and the resources they need to participate fully in society. Through our non-profit, we hope to make this a reality and help bridge the digital divide for underprivileged communities.

What it does

As part of our mission, we are a nonprofit organization that accepts donation of mobile devices in local communities with the goal of empowering people to use technology to make a positive impact. By collecting and redistributing these devices, we aim to provide access to technology for under-resourced communities, while also reducing the amount of electronic waste and promoting sustainability. We believe that access to technology has the power to transform lives, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect through technology.

How we built it

You team utilized a powerful combination of cutting-edge technologies to build your project. OpenAI was used to bring in advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, while React provided the front-end framework for a smooth and interactive user experience. Spring Boot was leveraged for the back-end development, handling server-side operations and data management with efficiency. NextJS was employed for server-side rendering, ensuring a fast and dynamic user interface. MongoDB Atlas was used as the database solution, providing scalable and flexible storage for the project data. Finally, domain.com was utilized to make the website accessible to the public. With this combination of technologies, our team was able to create a robust and dynamic project that leverages the best of what modern software development has to offer.

Challenges we ran into

-Time Constraints: One of the biggest challenges was completing the project within the limited time frame of the hackathon -Technical Difficulties: It was common to encounter problems with Github, and some devops aspects of the project. The frontend also had issues connecting to the backend using the fetch function. -Communication: There were times where our team experiences a lack of communication and this could lead to the designers to create something that is a little bit out of our expertise. -Burnout: With the fast-paced and intense nature of hackathons, some team members became exhausted, leading to decreased productivity and motivation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Successful deployment of a frontend: We were able to build and launch a user-friendly and visually appealing frontend that is accessible to all users. -Connecting a frontend to a backend API: We were able to seamlessly integrate the frontend and backend, enabling real-time data exchange and providing a smooth user experience. -Utilizing OpenAI API in the backend: We leveraged the power of OpenAI to implement cutting-edge AI technologies in your project, improving its functionality and user experience. -Designing amazing looking Figma applications: We used Figma to create beautiful, intuitive, and user-friendly designs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. -Meeting project requirements and deadlines: We effectively managed your time and resources to deliver a mostly functional project that meets all the requirements and deadlines. -Collaborating effectively as a team: We worked together seamlessly, leveraging each other's strengths and overcoming challenges as a team to deliver a high-quality project

What we learned

  • E-waste statistics: We likely gained a deeper understanding of the current state of e-waste and the environmental impact it has, as well as ways to mitigate it.
    • Using AI with a backend: We learned about the practical applications of AI in a backend environment and the potential benefits it can bring to a project, such as increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Connecting a frontend to a REST API: We gained experience in integrating a frontend with a backend through a REST API, and the challenges and considerations involved in such an integration.
    • Team collaboration: We learned the importance of effective communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution in a team setting, and how to work together to overcome challenges and deliver a successful project.
    • Frontend design: We gained insights into the design principles of a user-friendly and visually appealing frontend, and the role that design plays in improving the user experience.

What's next for BridgeTech

  • Display AI in the frontend: Now that the AI has been implemented in the backend, our next step could be to display the results in the frontend so that users can interact with it and see the benefits of the technology.
  • Adding Spring Security: To ensure the security and privacy of user data, we highly consider implementing Spring Security in your project. This will add an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access and potential security breaches.
  • Making the website more stable: To ensure a smooth and reliable user experience, you may want to focus on making the website more stable. This could involve fixing any bugs or glitches, optimizing performance, and improving the website's overall reliability.
