Inspiration

The prospect of thousands of local businesses closing their gates forever due to the harsh realities of this virus. The prospect that so many business owners would not have enough money to feed their families and earn a living. And finally, the prospect that we may not see small businesses like these for a long time since the impacts of the recession will far exceed the time that covid was here.

What it does

An app designed to connect citizens of Canada with their city's local businesses. This app will push the usage of local businesses for the user's everyday needs and services instead of the usage of big franchise companies that are well-off for centuries. It does this by allowing small businesses to register in to the app's portal by 1.)writing down their name and location, and 2.)writing down what kind of good or service they offer. After that, if any user of the app requires that service, the app will recommend that business to the user. With a large number of users, this could help ease the massive burden that the pandemic has placed on local businesses.

How we built it

Using Android studio as well as the Firebase-Firestore online database

Challenges we ran into

Setting up the database to fetch and retrieve data was our toughest job overall. Additionally, implementing the database's fetch feature into the actual UI was even tougher

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Something we're notably proud of is that we took this opportunity to address a very important social issue that Canada as well as the whole world is going through. And low key, we are really proud of setting up that database because I can think of a million more uses.
