Inspiration

In middle school, our 6th grade teacher had a similar system where we would be rewarded with points for completing certain goals. We could then redeem our points for rewards. This made learning much more fun for all of us and kept us engaged. We figured that other students may also enjoy this kind of thing and it will help people stay focused, especially with online learning.

What it does

It allows teachers to reward students with points if they complete certain academic goals. Students can accumulate points and then redeem academic rewards. There is a lot of customizability available for teachers.

How we built it

We used Java in Android Studio integrated with google firebase.

Challenges we ran into

Google firebase gave us some challenges as well as some syntax errors from android studio. Through perseverance and teamwork, we were able to get through them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using firebase is an accomplishment we are definitely very proud of. It was our first time building anything with Google Firebase.

What we learned

We learned a lot about using RecyclerViews, databases, and authentication. We also learned how to be more patient with errors and stay persistent. For example, we were persistent in figuring out the authentication for Firebase as that took us over 3 hours.

What's next for Brain Bux

We hope to implement more features such as using AI to suggest goals to complete to students as well as setting up a meet kind of feature that allows students to socialize about how to spend their points as well as any topic.
