Inspiration
In a world where people are more divided than ever by borders, beliefs, and biases I wanted to create a space that doesn’t force debate, but instead encourages quiet understanding. As a Muslim, I was raised to see beyond man-made divisions, and this app reflects that vision. BorderLess helps users step out of their bubbles and experience someone else’s life, even if just for a moment.
What it does
BorderLess is a mobile app where users can scroll through real glimpses into people’s lives—from cultural traditions to everyday rituals. Each post shows how someone from a different background experiences the world. Users can "Respect," "Relate," or "Ask" simple, thoughtful questions. As they engage, they earn Respect Coins and light up stars on a global journey map, visualizing their growing empathy.
How we built it
Because of time constraints I built the entire thing using Figma
Challenges we ran into
Figma was hard to use at moments, There was very limited time so I had to prioritize the most important parts and also in general find a way to make cultural content feel authentic while keeping the interface minimal and easy to navigate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an experience that doesn’t center the user, but instead encourages them to learn about others in such a short amount of time.
What we learned
What's next for BorderLess
I plan to build BorderLess using React native and Firebase. Next steps include adding personalized filters to explore by region or theme, and a weekly spotlight feature to highlight new cultural moments around the world. Overall just building on the features and design and bringing it to life
