Inspiration

Due to the poor, inadequate and corrupt health care system, the rate of mortality has increased over the past years.

What it does

• Borafya allows patients to give feedback on their experience at hospitals, which is then used to detect trends of discrimination by AI ...
• Prospective patients can browse hospitals and its scores to pick the best option. This app also comes with a feature in which specialists and doctors get the chance to meet up with patients that need urgent care.

How we built it

• Using existing database software and AI to filter, sort and handle the data fed in order to ensure accurate representation and feedback. It was a collaboration of both business, technical and design skills.

Challenges we ran into

• AI is costly and inaccurate
• In this project we've had to come up with solutions for problems within very short time periods. Additionally, getting the answers to some key issues of the design process has been a quite tasking.
• Ensuring legitimacy (false and wrong reviews) and generating sustainable revenue.
• Protection of data and private information.
• Higher authorities influencing the project with incorrupt acts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• We have been able to identify one of the main challenges facing the healthcare system in Africa and our app will take us one step closer to battling this challenge.
• Users will be allowed to anonymously rate and give reviews. Also, patients who want to see best hospitals can be able to select the most suitable and efficient hospitals due to the AI. Lastly, easy connection between the patient and doctors

What we learned

• We learnt that it will take more than just positive and negative reviews to tackle the challenge. A collaboration with UNDP ( United Nations Development Programme) and other health organizations will better our chances of success.
• Even though the design process is long and challenging , there is power in unity and teamwork. Additionally, there are answers to nearly all questions, if you look well enough.
• There are always challenges and setbacks to every solution but ensuring that this solution can be met to a desirable maximum is essential.
• We learned that sometimes it is better to keep the focus on one part of a problem instead of trying to solve it entirely.

What's next for Borafya

• We seek to develop a secure way to handle data, prove it's accuracy and also to develop a business model that will ensure we generate income.
• We are looking for potential investors in our project.
