Inspiration
Our inspiration for Bookify came from the idea of making reading more accessible for busy individuals and those with visual impairments. We wanted to create a solution that could turn books and research papers into audio formats that anyone could listen to.
What it does
Bookify is a web app that takes in the title of a book or research paper and generates an audio file using AWS's generative speech API.
How we built it
We built Bookify using React, MUI, JavaScript, and Flask. We used AWS's generative speech API to generate the audio files.
Challenges we ran into
We faced several challenges while developing Bookify, including issues getting the audio to play and integrating the back end with the front end. Time constraints were also a major challenge, as we only had 24 hours to build the entire project with only two of us coding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of building a working website within the time limit and creating a real and impactful business. We have personally experienced the benefits of audio books, and Bookify has the potential to help those with visual impairments.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate AWS's generative speech API with our web app, as well as how to tackle the challenges that come with building a project with a tight time constraint.
What's next for Bookify
Next, we plan to continue developing Bookify and adding new features to make it even more useful and accessible for our users. We also plan to explore partnerships with libraries and other organizations that could benefit from our service.
