Book-Easy

Inspiration

We wanted to take a mundane daily task and make it easier for those who may struggle with it. As able-bodied people, we often look as waiting in a line as a dreaded task we have to endure, but for some it can be physically strenuous.

What it does

After signing into Book-easy users can select their location of choice and select to “reserve” a spot in line. When it is their turn users get a notification and proceed to their reserved spots. Users can also favorite locations they frequent, allowing them to access them faster. There are three umbrella categories based on location: restaurants, airports, and amusement parks. Our app shortens the process and gives disabled users priority.

How we built it

We started with trying find an overlap between both an aesthetically pleasing and simple layout to make it easier for users to navigate. After deciding on a common color theme, we began to plan out our page based on the sequence we expected users to follow. After completing our basic design, we tweaked everything to make sure it blended together seamlessly. With our layout finished, we began coding.

Challenges we ran into

After we finished designing our prototype we started working on programming. Immediately we ran into a few technical errors, the main one being an error with fonts spiraling into several other issues. This caused catastrophe amongst our team and resulted in a few hours of panic and minimal work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially proud of our design and layout! As relatively new coders who are competing in their first hackathon, we are proud of ourselves for creating a simple, yet appealing design. As well as this, none of us have extensive experience with Swift and app development, so we were proud of our prototype.

What we learned

The main thing that we learned is the importance of our time management in developing our app. We may have spent too long designing our app, and not enough time actually putting it together. Now, we can move forward with better time awareness.

What's next for Book-Easy

We hope to turn Book-easy into a fully functioning app in the future. Currently, our UI is underdeveloped in comparison to our design. Our goal is to maintain the current functionality of our app whilst creating a more appealing appearance and adding more features.
