Inspiration
We wanted to build a web game related to Purdue so that we could engage the current students, alumni, and faculty of Purdue University in playing a game that is similar to Hangman but with Purdue-related words.
What it does
The boiler word guesser gives the user five tries to guess letters related to Purdue. If you guess the letter correctly, your tries stay the same; if you guess it incorrectly, you lose a guess. The correct letters are filled in the respective positions and you continue to play till you run out of guesses.
How we built it
We built the app using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript along with Angular.
Challenges we ran into
We had to debug for a long time because we weren’t able to get the expected output. We also didn’t have a lot of experience. However, we were determined to at least submit something in our first Purdue hackathon. After several attempts, we finally were able to build the Boiler Word Quest Application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although we are not experienced programmers, we were able to create a web game that could engage the students, alumni and faculty at Purdue University.
What we learned
We learned a lot about front end web development. The project was new to us. However, with the help of teamwork and our amazing mentors, we were able to create a good project.
What's next for Boiler Word Quest
After getting more experienced in web development, we could modify this project to make it slightly better. We can maybe give the user a hint of the word they are guessing after all the tries are completed. These hints would indirectly give away the word but in a funny way. In this way, the students will not only have fun but also learn more about Purdue University. We also hope to work on the design and make it better.
