A pandemic can make it hard to take that first step in interacting with the people around you. We try to bridge that step by creating an app where people can create opportunities to interact ... by sharing services! If you ever thought you could just use a little help with some task, or had some free time to spare, and wanted to make a new connection in the process, this is the app for you!
The Application
Provides an interface for users to log in with their own credentials. After customizing your profile, you can create listings to advertise what you have to offer. If you'd rather skip that, you can instead look to other public listings, which are shown to you based on proximity.
Built with
Flutter, which provides cross platform support for apps across Android, iOS, and Web. Flutter uses the Dart programming language. The app also integrates with a Firebase project for cloud management of user authentication, data, and public listings.
Challenge
As the majority of our group were working with tools or frameworks they were previously unfamiliar with, along with the added troubles of having to meet virtually in the distractions of home, only a few of the features we have planned were actually implemented successfully. Our project ambition was too broad to be feasible, once we had realized that and it was too late to stop, it also resulted in a declining interest and effort.
The Future
When coming up ideas, there were plenty of other features we were looking to implement. Not all of them are directly related, but many would help in the setting of a pandemic. These include
- Creating an app for selling/sharing used textbooks, which could use an API to get recommended textbooks from course numbers.
- Directing students to custom made study groups directly from their course numbers.
