Inspiration
After finding out about this prominent illness of Seasonal Affective Disorder, and its reach of 11 million people, I became aware that I needed to create a way to address this issue, through Blizzard Buddy.
What it does
It has features like:
- A list of brain-challenging games, to motivate the user to think
- A list of "evergreen" movies and TV Shows, that always make people feel better
- A list of social media sites, to motivate users to interact with society
- A challenge: Calorie in, Calorie out, which promotes physical fitness of the user
- The chatbot, which allows the user to feel less lonely, and have a human-like conversation
Challenges we ran into
- Integration between the frontend and backend was difficult
- The PyCharm Environment was crashing a lot due to errors
- Team was originally going to be a group of 3, but others had family emergencies, so working solo was required
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a functional chatbot, and fine-tuning it for optimal performance
- Creating a good-looking website, that is completely functional
What we learned
- How to create a website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- How to create a chatbot using Python
- How to use Flask to connect a frontend to a backend
- How to fine-tune a chatbot's responses
What's next for Blizzard Buddy
Adding more features like:
- Emotion Identification
- Conversing via Voice
- Recipe manager
- Workout tracker
