Inspiration
Enabling the blind to do the basic tasks by themselves, thus making them self-reliant and easing their lives.
What it does
This device uses a camera to observe the world around the user (blind and color blind) and make their lives better. It identifies the colors of objects that come in front of it, and then verbally communicates with the user. Using this information, the user can decide which colored clothes to wear, which pills to take, and basically 'see' how the world around them is, thus making them self-reliant.
How we built it
Using a webcam to observe the world around the user, and detecting colors in the frame, using raspberry pi, and then verbally communicating with the user using a speaker.
Challenges I ran into
Testing the product in real-time, with the blind was slightly different than we assumed, but it was a great experience and helped our device become extremely user friendly and easy to use.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Seeing the smile and satisfaction on the faces of people who couldn't see the world before and are benefitting from the product now.
What I learned
That no solution is small enough, and lives can be changed for the better if one is dedicated enough and wants to change things around things.
