Inspiration

One of our team members works in a company that helps small businesses get their start and she told us that a lot of people who start off have a lot of trouble with certain aspects of creating a business such as a lack of a good business plan or obtaining resources to get investors. This would also include the abilities for clients and investors to look up small businesses in the San Joaquin Valley they would want to support.

What it does

We built a prototype of a website that provides all of this information for people. We included a login/sign up page, links to resources to help with networking, a business plan template, as well as a mockup search function for businesses to find investors and business connections as well as a mockup search function for clients and investors to search through small businesses depending on what industry they're looking for.

How we built it

We created a prototype using Figma mainly to visually showcase what it would look like.

Challenges we ran into

Our group mainly had issues trying to lay everything out in Figma, so much so that we eventually didn't have time to actually code using HTML/CSS or to play around with backend developing. This was mostly based in the fact that 3 out of 4 members of the group hadn't even heard of Figma and we had to learn it in a day.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the layout of this website, our mockup concept is very similar to what we would've ended up coding had we actually had the time to do so.

What we learned

3 out of 4 of us learned how to use Figma which is definitely helpful as hopefully when we're in a position in which we have to use it again, things might go by quicker. We also learned a lot about the state of newly created small businesses and that they really could use a lot of support which is why this website would ultimately be important for them.

What's next for BizConnect

We'd like to actually code everything out in the future and maybe spread the word about BizConnect so it could become an actual website. We also would maybe implement more features to add more support for these small businesses.
