Track 1:
Inspiration
The idea for BioNexa came from a simple question: how does AI actually “see” biotechnology? We noticed that while biotech research is growing fast, it’s not always clear how AI-generated content represents or connects different biotech companies, labs, and topics. We wanted to build a tool that helps researchers and innovators explore this information in a more visual and understandable way.
What it does
BioNexa is an interactive web dashboard that maps how biotechnology appears in AI-generated content. It identifies biotech organizations, research areas, and institutions mentioned in AI text, then shows how they’re connected. Users can explore trends, discover relationships, and get a clearer view of what’s shaping the biotech world.
How we built it
Python and FastAPI for the backend and data processing, Vercel for hosting the API. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front-end dashboard.
Challenges we ran into
Processing large text data efficiently was tough. We had to simplify our methods to keep performance smooth. Designing clean, useful visualizations without clutter was another challenge. Coordinating deployment between Railway and Vercel took a few tries to get everything working together seamlessly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working AI-powered biotech mapping dashboard from scratch. Created simple, clear visuals that make complex data easier to understand. Managed to deploy everything quickly using modern tools while keeping it lightweight and user-friendly. Handling everything required a lot of trial and error, despite all that, we kept going, learning new tools step by step.
What we learned
That sometimes, simplicity in design gives users the best experience. How to manage code and collaboration using Git and version control. How to integrate backend APIs with a dynamic front-end dashboard effectively. How AI-generated data can reveal hidden trends in specialized fields like biotechnology. That anyone can build and deploy something meaningful, even without a technical background, with patience and persistence.
