Inspiration
not enough awareness of what goes in which trash bins, lots of waste is going in the wrong places and our environment is being harmed because of such carelessness.
What it does
helps classify the trash bin that a disposable item should go in through a simple picture of the item.
How we built it
we used html and css for the frontend, and used javascript for the backend that allowed us to use the camera, and connected it with OpenAI api to process the image and return a result.
Challenges we ran into
we had many problems at the beginning when we tried to integrate the api calls using Python, but then fixed it as we put everything into javascript later.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we were really creative and did a good job on the ai chat box about recycling, and the fun facts based on the given piece of trash.
What we learned
even a simple overnight project like this can help influence people's everyday actions, leading to a better and healthier planet.
What's next for BinBuddy
we can expand to a larger audience, and train the model on our own to ensure that both the chatbot and the image processing provides more accurate details.
