As an engineer, I've always loved tackling complex problems with innovative solutions. But let's be real, sometimes we engineers can get a little too excited and create solutions for problems that don't even exist yet!
In my own past entrepreneurial journey, I struggled with the customer discovery and product development process. The tools available were all over the place and not very helpful. I spent more time clicking around these tools than actually getting valuable insights.
Is there a better way to test beta products with just the right user bases? That's when I thought about BettaBase, a platform that streamlines the product development process by connecting businesses with targeted users for feedback and insights. Thanks to the power of Wix Velo, I was able to rapidly prototype the MVP and bring the idea to life.
What it does

How I built it
By solely using Wix Velo, I swiftly prototyped BettaBase, utilizing various APIs such as: wix-data, wix-members, wix-window, wix-location, and wix-animations in the development process.
Challenges I ran into
I started the hackathon as a Velo newbie and fashionably late to the party. But it wasn't until a week or two of tinkering that I found out wix-users was out of date! Cue panic mode, but thanks to the kind souls in the Discord community and the Wix staff at the last office hour, I got back on track faster than the Flash on Red Bull.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm thrilled to say that I kicked off this hackathon without a clue on how to use the tools I needed. But, after some serious tinkering and a few cups of coffee, I managed to whip up something pretty sweet! Even though it's not flawless, I'm incredibly proud of what I accomplished in such a brief time.
What I learned
Well, what I learned from this crazy rollercoaster ride is that sometimes, less is more! I hit a few roadblocks early on, with certain features that I couldn't implement, causing me to feel defeated and question the worth of my submission. But a few days away from the project actually helped me to clear my head and come up with a better, more focused plan. In the end, I'm thrilled with what I was able to accomplish in such a short amount of time!
What's next for BettaBase
Ironically Betta testing 😶🌫️ With small steps would love this platform to be tested with some incredible product owners and businesses, while also introducing exciting new features such as A/B testing, building a vibrant community, and enhancing our R&D tools.
