Inspiration
Organizations that run publicly funded equity programs often collect participant data throughout the program lifecycle, tracking demographics, application stages, acceptance decisions, and completion outcomes. But the current tools don't provide an intuitive way to analyze participation pathways, making it difficult for program administrators to figure out where participants disengage in the entrepreneurship journey, and if there are certain barriers at specific stages pertaining to specific demographic groups.
What it does
This is a visual analytics tool that helps program administrators quickly visualize participation pathways and identify equity gaps, instead of digging through spreadsheets. The dashboard allows users to:
- Dashboard: Visualize the participant pathway from invitation to completion using funnel and flow diagrams
- Comparative Analysis: Compare participation patterns across demographic groups such as age, gender, or immigration status
- Dropoff Heatmap: Explore a drop-off heatmap that highlights which groups face the greatest disengagement barriers
- Export Report: Generate report-ready visuals that administrators can share with funders and stakeholders
The goal is to help non-technical users quickly turn raw participation data into clear, actionable insights.
How we built it
We used FigJam and Miro for the initial brainstorming sessions, and our final prototype was made using Figma. The result is a clickable prototype that demonstrates how administrators could explore participation patterns and identify equity gaps in their programs.
Challenges we ran into
- Generating the Sankey diagram
- Making various versions of prototypes
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We have a clear, accessible design that is intuitive for users with various levels of technical experience.
What we learned
Making interactive prototypes on Figma! Several members of our team had little prior experience with UI/UX design, so this was an opportunity to dive in and learn by doing. Through the process, we gained hands-on experience with design, organizing complex information into clear visual hierarchies, and using components, variants, and prototyping tools to simulate real product interactions. We also learned how thoughtful data visualization can make complex participation data easier to understand for non-technical users.
What's next for BelongInclusivity - Analytic Dashboard
In future iterations of the prototype, we would like to add features such as:
- Cohort and time-based comparisons, enabling users to compare outcomes across different program cycles or years.
- Customizable dashboards, where administrators can tailor which visualizations and metrics are most relevant to their reporting needs. Beyond expanding the prototype itself, an important next step would be bringing the design to life by turning this into a functional platform that helps organizations continuously evaluate and improve program accessibility, ensuring that opportunities are reaching the communities they are intended to support.
- Account / User Page, Eventual support for different users, and viewing download and upload history from the user page.
