Inspiration

Cher once said in response to her mother who asked her to marry a rich man that she “was a rich man”. We were inspired by the fact that financial literacy can really inspire and empower women. The bee theme of our website is inspired by hardworking bees who make honey (earn money) by working hard. But if they spend too much honey, they will run out of honey and that affects the hive (friends/family).

What it does

Bee Pocket is a bee-themed financial pocketbook for youth to keep track of their expenses and income, learn about financial concepts, and reflect and record financial advice through the journal feature.

How I built it

Using Figma.

Challenges I ran into

Originally, we wanted to make this a functional website, but we ran into quite a few errors and decided we would be better off fleshing out the idea completely through a mockup.

What I learned

We learnt a lot about the current state of financial literacy!

What's next for BeePocket

Potential gamefication, partnership with companies, parental controls, as well as extending the service to an app or a data-driven Google Chrome extension that gives you finance tips while online shopping.
