The concept for BeePal ignited from a shared dilemma: how do we transcend the common plateau of individual productivity and tap into collective progress? We drew inspiration from our own challenges with maintaining consistent productivity levels and the profound impact of community support. Delving into Kotlin and Android Studio, we embraced the nuances of mobile app development. Leveraging a pre-existing Tinder clone repository, we gained insight into adapting and transforming code to suit our innovative needs, understanding the value of open-source resources in accelerating development.
How We Built BeePal
We embraced Android Studio and Kotlin for their robustness and fluency in mobile application development. Starting with a Tinder clone GitHub repository, we meticulously refashioned the codebase, transforming a platform for social matchmaking into a haven for productivity partnerships.
Our challenge was twofold: to repurpose the swipe mechanics for task session creation and to devise an algorithm that matched users not for dates, but for productivity sessions. We embedded communication tools with privacy-focused features, allowing users to share their progress with peace of mind.
Challenges We Faced
Adapting the matchmaking logic from a dating app to a productivity-focused platform posed a unique challenge. Ensuring the algorithm could interpret and align users' schedules, goals, and preferences required intricate coding and multiple iterations.
Another test was preserving user privacy within a real-time collaborative framework. Implementing screenshot blurring and other redaction tools without detracting from the user experience necessitated a balance of creativity and technical expertise.
