Inspiration

Life is stressful and it can be hard to remember what happened even just last week. Additionally, we've watched friends grow up with grandparents and even parents who have suffered with neurodegeneration, like Alzheimer's. Watching people forget themselves is scary, and so too is realizing that, at a healthy 18 years old, you can't remember what you did three days ago. Hence this website!

What it does

It is journaling - track mood, upload pictures, tack little notes to your board - but also detection and identity. By submitting handwritten pages, artificial intelligence can analyze handwriting and look for changes over time. Decline in handwriting is one of the earliest detection methods of neurodegeneration, and this allows us to ring alarm bells to catch progression early. Then, on the days that it is too hard to remember, we provide a database of who you are so that you never forget. We also have a community discussion and forum, so that people can share their struggles/resources and build off each other.

How we built it

We built our webpage with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and used AWS S3 Buckets/Cognito to store information.

Challenges we ran into

All of it! Linking with AWS was difficult at first and combining all of our material wasn't easy either. But it was a great way to learn so many new, cool things!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're only freshman with limited coding experience, so to have a full website with camera upload functionality, a log-in page, a public forum, buttons, the fact that we drew all of the icons ourselves... all of it is pretty amazing :)

What we learned

We learned a lot about incorporating AWS, merging different files/languages, and how to use HTML further.

What's next for Bee Great

We would love to turn BeeGreat into reality - there is a professor here who researches dementia and how technology can aid/slow its decline, and we would be interested to reach out to her to make this a comprehensive product.
