Inspiration
Our workspaces need companionship during the holidays. Games bring people together. Flappy bird was the inspiration. We're a group of accessibility-focused, video streaming, web developers, some having our own disabilities, so this hack was very close to us.
What it does
Navigate the chimneys (not the pipes) as you're Santa giving presents. We wanted to use Loom for it's beauty. Loom has a start feature. You can share the Loom video recording with your colleagues. And what we realized is how funny our faces look when we're about to die in a game.
How we built it
Loom, React, NES.css, sleepless nights.
Challenges we ran into
Timers, closures, and more. The Loom API itself was tricky because there are lots of ways to stop videos. Also keyboards only work if you have selected the screen. Adjusting gravity, wall collisions, moving objects were tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
How nice it looks. How the gravity comes together
What we learned
Use simpler frameworks like Vue. Timing stuff is hard. Gravity, wall collisions.
What's next for Flappy Loom holiday edition
Fixing the bugs, adding accessibility features. Trying to ask for pause handling from Loom.
