Inspiration
Going off of backpacks made for kids already, the idea was to create a bag that a little kid would love to wear.
What it does
A small radar beacon is embedded into the backpack, this will send off a signal when the kid is outside. What will happen is an autonomous vehicle will detect the signal coming from the bag ahead of time and the signal will tell the car to stop when the child enters the street.
How we built it
We built a custom backpack that has a compartment built in to house the beacon component.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to prototype this. The bag was definitely doable, however, figuring out how to test the feature proved to be troublesome within out limitation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the "car" radar scanner to work, so that it will detect the bag when it comes into view.
What we learned
A lot about sewing, arduino, autonomous driving, presentations, mindmapping, and collaberation.
What's next for Beacon Bag
Next we would like the design more bags for this project as well as actually prototype the beacon within the backpack.
