Our Inspiration for Beach Memories

Our Group knows AI is the future. We wanted to explore what the future could be by building an AI Large Language Model powered dating sim where the LLM provides a unique experience for everyone.

What Beach Memories does

Beach Memories is the story of a protagonist who struggles in choosing the love of his life. Is it his long-time childhood friend who never reciprocated the love he gave her, or the second girl of his dreams he started dating in college that makes his childhood friend come to terms with how she feels about the protagonist?

How we built Beach Memories

the original goal of the project was an AI-powered chatbot that would serve as both the narrator and the characters in this story. we would word the starting prompt to write certain phases into the first line of the output that would give "Clues" to a sort of Master control program that would then display the correct music and backgrounds and character depending on where they are. And as we don't have access to ChatGPT, the processing power or the money to pay for said power to make our own Large Language Model, and we were unable to work with Bard in a successful manner, we pivoted to a more traditional Dating Sim where the story was built up by Google Bard and then implemented into our Sim the old fashioned way.

Challenges we ran into

We have had problems in the past with biting off more than we can chew and having to scrap projects last minute so we at least have something to show for our efforts. While we ran into problems early on with the Bard Repos we found not working, we are glad we didn't have to go with any "backup" projects.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our project that is true. We are proud of the effort we put in sure, but our first hack was at KU in February 2020, right before we got digitized by a malevolent Master Control Program and sent on a journey of self-discovery to save the internet! Or was that Tron? Either way, getting to see how far we have come in the three years since the last time we were here is such an amazing experience to be able to see how you changed is such a great experience.

What we learned

We learned not to go hacking into Large Tech Companies' beta AIs that are set to possibly take over the internet for our own personal gain. And for some reason, we seem to keep learning that while Hacks are great places to learn new skills, making your project the learning And application of said new skills, you are going to not have a great project

What's Next for Beach Memories?

We believe that this is the end for Beach Memories. While we could polish it up and build out the paths for the project, that isn't really what we were going for. Our goal was to make this a fully AI project. And so we would revisit this project when Google has a proper API for use with Bard.
