Inspiration
With all of us being BC students who can drive, there's been more than a few instances in which getting to class on time has been an issue (especially with 8am classes). So, what can we do so we can become model students who come to class on time? We can minimize the amount of time it takes to find a parking space, after all, every second counts when it comes to getting to school on time.
What it does
Our app uses multiple reporting systems in order to show what parking spots are open (prototype is just self-reporting). In doing so, we can display to the user what areas have a lot of parking spots as well as what specific parking spots there are to make the process of finding parking (and getting to school) more efficient.
How we built it
-Figma
Challenges we ran into
-Designing an accurate model for the BC parking garage
Learning how to use Figma and android studio
The learning curve for android studio was too steep so we had to scrap the idea mid-way through and stick with purely Figma
Copying and pasting all the rectangles into the parking spaces (very hard)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-making an accurate representation of the second floor of the BC parking garage (we went out and counted every individual parking space)
Learning how to make the button animation fluid on Figma
Finishing a working prototype that can be applied to a real app.
What we learned
-To use Figma
-Learned a bit of android studio
What's next for BC Circulation (Parking app)
Our ultimate goal (outside of completing the app) is to make a fool proof way of finding specific parking spaces on campus. After we do this, we hope to expand on this innovative new system by creating a program that can be more engrained within the BC ecosystem. The way that we believe that we can do this is through the study room system so students can see if any rooms are open beforehand. Office hours are also something we are thinking about because it could save a lot of students the hassle of showing up, only to find the professor is already occupied.
