Inspiration
Throughout our entire life, our team have had to face a serious challenge. The amount of times we have had to bake banana cakes due to overripening of bananas drives us bananas! That's why we decided to do something about this pressing global issue. Introducing BananAnatomy, the perfect Android app to verify and manage your banana stock so that you will never need to see this delicate fruit go bad again!
What it does
BananAnatomy is an Android app that allows the user to either scan or upload a picture of a banana. The app will then reveal to them the ripeness and share some world-changing facts about this sacred fruit. Are you perhaps a baker using bananas as a key ingredient? Have you ever encountered a situation where a customer throws a tantrum because the banana used in their banana ice cream was not the right ripeness? This app will solve all your banana-related issues and help you grow closer to your clientele!
How we built it
Our team consists of many talented first year programmers who have never built an Android app before and of a banana scientist who rigorously researched the different stages of ripeness. Our developers built the app using the Android Studio IDE, and using Java for the backend and XML for the front-end while our scientist baked a banana in an oven.
Challenges we ran into
There isn't a single step in the development process that wasn't packed with issues. Every time we believe we've found a solution to our problems, turns out the guide is outdated and the method is deprecated. We've come so close to giving up but our ambition to revolutionize the banana industry drove us forward.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite all challenged, we're proud to not have given up and to have completed a flawless, efficient, revolutionary (barely working and severely lacking in content) app. It is our belief that this app will bring positive changes to the world (...on a local, household level).
What we learned
We've learned that making an Android app is a lot more difficult than we initially anticipated. Nonetheless, we've introduced ourselves to Android development using Android Studio and learned the basics of XML. Our banana expert also learned a lot about the subject at hand.
What's next for BananAnatomy
We plan to introduce a system that keeps track of your previously scanned banana's healthbar over time. We plan to add a notification system whenever a scanned banana's HP is close to reaching 0.
