Inspiration
We realized the world needed more Instagram Reels. So we decided to make them even more obnoxious and annoying than they already are. That’s why we created BabyBoomBox—to play brainrot audio on the go.
What it does
BabyBoomBox is a soundboard that lets you spam “babyboo” and other awesomesauce sounds anywhere, anytime. Controlled with a numpad, output through a singular buzzer, and tweaked with potentiometers, it truly is a portable "Baby Boo Boombox".
How we built it
We started with a Raspberry Pi to play .wav files. Then we realized we had no speaker, so we pivoted to Arduino UNO. The keypad selects notes, potentiometers control effects, and buzzers output the sound. By converting brainrot audios into sequences of notes, we made a fully functioning brainrot soundboard.
Challenges we ran into
All of the components we thought we had, WE DID NOT HAVE. Our original project was supposed to be built on the Raspberry Pi with a speaker component. Then we found out we didn’t have a speaker component so we had to use buzzers instead. After this change we had some more problems with how Raspberry Pi can’t output digital signals, so we had to do a full pivot to using an Arduino UNO.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Made a functioning soundboard in 5.5 hours. Turned a keypad into a mini musical instrument. Made buzzers play something resembling brainrot audio. Brought Instagram Reels into the physical world.
What we learned
Further research compatibility before starting the project next time
What's next for BabyBoomBox
Find a speaker component so we can actually play .wav files Add more sounds. Add pitch smoothing and reverb. Collab with baby boo herself
