Our chosen theme is on Waste Management and our focus is on wastage in the oceans/rivers, specifically in the aspect of micro-plastics.
In the modern world we are living today, micro-plastic is a significantly small yet prevailing problem in the world. Therefore, our team aligned the relation and felt the need to work towards this “small” issue before it gets out of hand. Micro-plastic is the global warming of 50 years ago and we can solve it now rather than prolong to the future.
Our prototype is a boat-like structure that collects waste, specifically micro-plastics, and sends out real-time data on a website. It is a stepping stone in targeting the amount of micro-plastics in the waters and generating data for researchers to use. Although this solution may be of a small movement/impact, we hope that in the long run, it would essentially contribute to benefiting the waste management in the waters.
