Inspiration

In today's digital landscape, local news is often overshadowed by national media, making it harder to verify claims about local government, policies, and events. Our AI-powered Local News Fact-Checker revolutionizes the way we consume and verify news by structuring data into a transparent, interactive knowledge graph.

What it does

Users can explore connections between news outlets, articles, and key figures, visually track how different sources report on the same events, and even input a claim for AI-assisted fact-checking.

How we built it

By combining real-time web scraping, NLP entity recognition, vector search, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), our platform ensures that local news remains accurate, transparent, and accessible to all.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing RAG, querying the database, building the knowledge graph, scraping the websites & data handling

What's next for autonomy

The next step for autonomy would be making it the most reliable source for campus-related real-time news, which is not so readily available online. That way, students will always be well informed about anything happening on campus and be able to plan accordingly.
