Athena Defense

Athena Defense is a mobile app for women who may find themselves in a dangerous situation. With just one click of a button, your location will be sent to emergency contacts or even the police station.

Personal experience with feeling unsafe and wanting to protect other women too.

What it does

Our app sends the user's location to their emergency contacts at the click of a button.

How we built it

We used Kotlin with Android Studio along with the Twilio SMS API.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced during the project was learning how to use Kotlin and Android Studio.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we tackled something we have never done before and learned about new technologies. We are glad that despite our lack of experience, we were able to get our basic functionality to work through teamwork.

What we learned

We learned that combining our experience and expertise through teamwork and communication is key.

What's next for Athena Defense

We would like to fine tune all the basic functions of our app and the UI. We also had some more ideas features that we would like to implement, like displaying helpful safety tips and providing information about police stations and safe locations that are nearby to the user.
