AT A GLANCE is an interactive tool intended to teach users the basics of online AI recognition, media literacy, and overall making sense of what they see.

Inspiration

This project was inspired by the need to recognize what online is made by AI, and the importance of visualizing data in a way that is not misleading. We took inspiration from the flooding of various social media platforms with deepfakes and other AI images in order to form our tool.

What it does

At A Glance seeks to train users to be aware of AI images, increase basic media literacy, and give a better sense of how to interpret statistics. This is all in the pursuit of making the user a more productive, sensible, and interactive part of the online community.

How we built it

We built this project using python library called CustomTkinter in order to make the UI, and used basic python to form the backend. We split the work among our group, so multiple members worked on question generation, AI interactions, UI development and backend coding.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were the procurement of AI images that fit our criteria, as well as formatting the questions into the UI in an acceptable format.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the efficiency with which we were able to complete the project. The team worked effectively, and the division of labor proved effective. In addition to this, we believe that this project addresses a significant issue for our time while still staying true to the theme.

What we learned

The technical team gained valuable experience with the applications used to build the project, and as a whole we learned the value of collaborating in advance to come up with a cohesive theme. Through deliberately allotting time at the beginning to comprehensively define our vision, the project proceeded much more smoothly, and it is a process we will be sure to use in the future.

What's next for At a Glance

Because the preliminary version of AAG is just a proof of concept, future iterations would include more features oriented towards further training for its users. A leaderboard system will be installed, as well as other minigames intended for the user to start to recognize and subconsciously pick up on AI writing. There could be a multiplayer system sorts as well, in which an AI and another human partake in a sort of Turing Test, in order to bolster the aim even further.
