Inspiration
AskHer originates from the realization that many women silently struggle with personal and professional challenges in their day to day lives -- especially in male-dominated spaces such as tech. Everyone has experienced feelings of isolation and being overwhelmed. We understand that vulnerability often feels unsafe in a world that values perfection over authenticity. Our goal was to create an anonymous space where women can show up as they are, ask the questions they are afraid to say out loud and return anonymous support from others because sometimes, being understood—even by a stranger—can mean more than we realize.
What it does
AskHer is an anonymous peer support platform where women can safely share what’s on their minds—free from fear or judgment—while building a collective community grounded in empathy.
Users can sign up or log in through our secure, personalized authentication system. Once inside, they can anonymously post advice threads, which are shared across the platform for others to read and respond to. Supportive features include an upvote system and a comment section for encouragement, advice, or kind words.
For those moments when you need quiet, personal support, AskHer also includes a built-in AI chatbot—ready to listen and gently guide you through whatever you're experiencing.
The platform also offers a private journaling space, where users can reflect, log their thoughts, and check in on their emotional well-being through daily mood tracking.
Finally, our curated resource hub links to empowering websites, hotlines, and educational tools tailored to support and uplift women in all aspects of life.
How we built it
We used React and Vite for the frontend, creating a responsive and intuitive user interface that allows women to easily navigate the platform and access its supportive features. Our clean, minimal design ensures a seamless experience—from posting anonymous questions to discovering mental health resources.
On the backend, we utilized FastAPI to handle our server-side logic efficiently, ensuring fast and reliable communication between the frontend and database. For data storage and user authentication, we integrated Supabase, providing a secure and scalable solution to manage user sessions, journal entries, posts, and community interactions.
Our built-in AI support system, powered by the Gemini API. We integrated this conversational AI to provide users with thoughtful, emotionally intelligent responses—especially in moments when human replies might be delayed.
Challenges we ran into
Being a team comprised of new hackers, we were came in with inexperience but had gained technical skills that helped us create a product we are proud of. Getting the AI calls for our conversation chatbot took a few tries and getting it to respond with the right tone along with the waiting time to generate an automated response was also a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of seeing our initial idea come to live with all our proposed features working. Our UI is something that we put a lot of time into to create a calming and warm experience for users.
What we learned
Overall we were immersed into invaluable skills such as team collaboration and effective time management. We also deepened an understanding of frontend backend integration and gained hands on experience in how user interactions from our frontend makes server calls to our backend and how relational databases manage and structure our data. We also learned how to identify an ongoing problem for a target group and create actionable steps to derive change.
What's next for AskHer
Our goal in the future is to grow our application into a full-featured platform that serves at the forefront of emotional wellness. We want to develop our MVP into a functional mobile app that makes daily emotional support more accessible anytime and anywhere. We would also like to have a mood analytics dashboard that would allow users to track trends in their emotional well-being through interactive data visualizations.
