Inspiration
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been international shortages of essential items, leaving millions without access to things like masks or hand sanitizers. Grocery stores are high traffic areas worth avoiding that frequently run out of high demand products. At the same time, when healthy people stockpile items it impacts older people or those with pre-existing health conditions the most. The added pressures of social distancing make it difficult to connect with people who lack basic necessities with those who can spare some items. How can we bring communities together in fighting the virus while still keeping people safe?
What it does
Quarantine Buddies allows users to specify what essential items they lack and what they have an abundance of. The application then matches users with others based on geolocation data and questionnaire results. Matched users can message each other to coordinate contactless pickup and dropoff, thereby lowering the risk of COVID-19 exposure.
How I built it
Quarantine Buddies was built in Xcode using Swift and Firebase.
