Inspiration
This project started as a creative experiment in survival mechanics and imagining how people might respond if society suddenly collapsed. Initially inspired by games and pop culture (zombies), the project shifted focus once we recognized how many elements of our fictional world mirrored real global issues: conflict zones, food and water insecurity, and environmental disasters. That realization pushed us to design something that felt both immersive and relevant to today’s world.
What it does
Our app is a necessity in a post-apocalyptic world, where users have to manage sparse resources and have a need to innovate with what they have. Users can track their location, monitor weather patterns, and exchange information through a QR system, but most of all, they can craft. Users can upload images of their resources, and we will show them not only what they can create, but give a visual guide as to how. Using AI to generate survival tips and provide detailed instructions, using Scan-Craft is like having a survival expert right beside you.
Our app can be tailored for any survival scenario, such as, but not limited to:
🧟 Zombie apocalypse: Plan survival strategies, locate resources, and share findings anonymously with others through QR code-based exchanges.
⚔️ Civil unrest or warzones: Document critical supplies, coordinate with allies, and receive AI-generated guidance on safe zones and survival methods.
🌪️ Natural disasters: Use geolocation and weather data to adapt strategies and receive emergency instructions.
🏢 Business continuity planning: Companies can use the inventory system to manage resources across locations, simulate emergency drills, and improve operational preparedness.
🌍 General preparedness training: Educators and trainers can use the immersive simulation to teach resource management, decision-making, and emergency protocols in a gamified setting.
Challenges we ran into
Merge conflicts were a consistent struggle during collaboration. While our pace was strong, version control coordination cost us time. We also had to carefully adapt the Gemini API outputs to match the thematic tone of the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Designing an immersive UI that’s both fun and thought-provoking
- Seamless integration of multiple APIs
- Shifting a fictional concept into a socially aware experience
