Inspiration
We want to support artists on their journey and help them get more awareness for their work. At the same time, we want to make art more accessible to everyone.
What it does
Artists can upload their artwork to the platform where they can be scouted by end users. Through swiping, people can explore artwork from newcomer and established artists. If an item is for sale, the artwork can be sold directly from the platform. To ensure that the artwork fits in perfectly, users can use our AR function to get a sneak peek on how the artwork would look in their home or gallery. Galleries can search for current trending artists to help them expand their artist roster. The platform also provides the ability to insure and ship artwork directly via vetted business partners.
How we built it
We've used React to build the platform and have Python and OpenCV in place to determine art similarity for the swiping experience. We apply image denoising to artwork images before applying Gaussian blurring and use the image histogram to calculate the similarity to other artwork.
Challenges we ran into
Getting a working algorithm to determine similarity between artwork. Also, hacking at 4am is not for everyone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working as a diverse team, onboarding junior team members and submitting a project that we're really proud of.
What we learned
We've gained more experience with React and explored scalable business models for platforms. Also we've strengthen our computer vision skills to work with artwork.
What's next for ArtFlow
