Inspiration

One of the team's members had a really inspiring math teacher who made Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 really easy by having real life examples to explain difficult concepts and even models to explain 3d concepts. We wanted this app to be that bridge that students can use to learn effectively.

What it does

ARithmetic uses camera feed to take a picture and with the data it provides an explanation for the problem along with coming up with a relevant graph to explain the concept. In addition, we use AR to display the graph in real life.

How we built it

We used React and Tailwind for a quick frontend and we used FastAPI for the backend in addition with Katex for formatting in order to format the explanation provided since it has latex. In addition, we tried using Snapchat Lens Studio in order to incorporate AR into the project.

Challenges we ran into

The largest challenge was allocating work to members adequately since some members were more comfortable with the technologies than others. In addition we had problems with Git and merges and had to revert to previous commits many times at the cost of new features. We also had problems with Snapchat API and were unable to incorporate an AR display of the graph, particularly those in 3d.
