Inspiration
We wanted to make climate change education engaging, interactive, and impactful. Inspired by classic pixel-art RPGs and the power of storytelling, Arcadia’s Choice immerses players in a world where their knowledge and decisions determine the fate of the environment.
What it does
Players embark on a journey through different environmental realms—oceans, forests, cities, and more—answering themed quizzes and making choices that shape the world around them. With each decision, their environment either thrives or deteriorates, teaching players about sustainability in an interactive way.
How we built it
We used React , NES.css and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, ensuring a seamless and visually stunning experience. The game logic and dynamic storytelling were implemented using Superflex, allowing for smooth scene transitions and engaging interactions. Firebase for authentication and leaderboard. Gemini API to generate different questions for the quiz. Vercel for deployment.
Challenges we ran into
- Dynamic Storytelling: Implementing adifferent questions qith the use of Gemini.
- Visual Integration: Ensuring pixel-art aesthetics worked well with modern web design.
- Time Constraints: Balancing features while making the experience polished and engaging.
- Teammate's laptop: One of our teammate's laptop crashed halfway and is still undergoing repairs so we had to act quickly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created an immersive educational experience that’s both fun and informative.
- Designed dynamic questions.
- Developed an engaging retro pixel-art aesthetic that enhances gameplay.
What we learned
- How to create a branching narrative with interactive elements.
- The importance of visual storytelling in gamified learning.
- How to optimize user experience while making an educational game engaging. 🚀
