Inspiration

The inspiration was how I found that when applying for jobs, hearing back from recruiters can be tedious as messages get lost within our emails. Because of this we may also not know if recruiters have ever replied back or even ghosted us in the end. To fix this process or to at least create a streamlined process, I created ApplyBuddy, an app with built in AI to not only help you apply for jobs but also features a way to view statuses of job applications once they are submitted.

What it does

ApplyBuddy allows you to search for jobs and view if they are the right fit. It also allows you to see the status of your applied jobs, as well as let you create your resume and cover letter. These features are assisted by an AI chatbot named Buddy, who will help you with any questions or concerns you have about your job search or how to build your resume.

How we built it

I built this by taking into consideration in how many websites out there like Indeed for example do not really indicate how a job application is going. You would have to wait for an email back or even email them to ask how it is going. I made sure to include a status feature in the navigation bar that shows users the list of jobs applied for as well as color coded indicators of how that application is going. Through this users are able to understand and get easy feedback on whether their application is in progress, if they got accepted/rejected, or even ghosted.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges I ran into was how it felt like ApplyBuddy was a repetitive app to other job apps out there, as it uses similar search method and layout as them when looking for jobs. However I tried my best to make it look different, especially with an AI chatbot to help you along each page as well as adding the status feature as this is something rarely used.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments are how I was able to create the status feature page to make it easier to view statuses of job applications, rather than having to look through stuffed emails and find where that message about the application is going.

What we learned

This project helped me learn how important it is to have feedback, especially during times of uncertainty when we really need to obtain a job. It is important to know when we hear back from an application, so we know what the next steps are during job searches.

What's next for ApplyBuddy

I would love to keep working on this app and hopefully have it open eyes for people how important it is for users to have feedback and a status feature for applications, especially for jobs, as it is already a tedious task to apply to multiple jobs and to only wonder what happened to our applications once we submit them.
