AppearXR: ✨ Mixed Reality Chroma Key for Next-Level Presence ✨

Inspiration💡

We were inspired to create AppearXR to make mixed reality interactions more immersive and personalized. We wanted a tool that brings any video into the MR environment, transforming virtual meetings into in-person conversations and allowing users to interact with their favorite characters in a whole new way.

What it does 🎭**

AppearXR is a mixed reality app that uses the Meta Quest Presence Platform to create a customizable chroma key effect. Users simply paste a video link, and AppearXR seamlessly removes the background, placing the subject directly into the user's MR space. This unlocks incredibly lifelike interactions, opening up a world of possibilities for connection, entertainment, and learning.

*How we built it *🛠️

We built AppearXR with the Meta Quest Presence Platform's Interaction SDK and Passthrough capabilities. Our chroma key algorithm works with common video formats (MP4, MOV, OGV, WebM), and users can easily adjust settings for optimal results.

*Challenges we ran into *🚧

Optimizing the chroma key algorithm for Meta Quest's processing power was a key challenge. We also focused on creating a user-friendly interface for easy link pasting and adjustments.

We're thrilled to have a working AppearXR prototype showcasing the potential of chroma key in MR! Users can now bring their favorite videos to life, enhancing their MR experience.

Through this hackathon, we've deepened our understanding of the Meta Quest Presence Platform and gained valuable experience in algorithm optimization and user interface design for mobile VR.
