Inspiration

When we were younger we wanted to explore what was beyond our own planet. We built this as a way of subtly introducing and sparking interest of curious exploration to the younger generations.

What it does

An application that allows you to control a rover that moves around different planets in our representation of the solar system. There is a "mission control" (chatGPT) which allows for interaction on the fly during exploration of the planets. Landmarks are also marked with question marks to signify points of interest.

How we built it

We used unity to simulate the physics system required to make the project possible. We also used openAI API to implement the "mission control" tool.

Challenges we ran into

The openAI API was a little bit hard to get our head around. However, we did eventually get past the hurdle. The other problem I think we could have was time management issues. I still believe there is much we could implement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of having a functional project with all the features that we hoped to achieve. There could be lots more information to be put onto our application, but for now, we are satisfied with the result.

What we learned

I think we learnt how to more efficiently work as a team. Especially when other people were struggling with certain tasks that others have strengths in. We further developed critical thinking skills when dealing with unforeseen circumstances.

What's next for Apollo

If we were able to, in the future where hopefully we may have access to 3d simulations of these planets, we may implement some sort of virtual reality, to better experience the harsh conditions of these planets. We believe that this will further create general interest in the stars above for years to come.
