Inspiration

The Reddit GME situation and the rise of retail traders and social media influence, with an intent to provide an accessible platform for discussions and analysis.

What it does

Collects data from financial subreddits and visualizes it with metrics and price comparisons

How we built it

Our web application uses flask APIs to aggregate data for stock prices and online engagement. Currently our data is pulled from various subreddits based around trading and the stock market. Using a reddit API we were able to scrape comments, engagement, and sentiment from any post that includes a stock ticker from the past year. This data is visualized with React and compared to historical stock prices over the same timeframe.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into time constraints due to unfamiliarity with some of the software we used. We weren't able to add some of the features we had planned that would've greatly improved functionality and user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to come up with a unique idea, and use various skills and software to build something from scratch. Having the ability to pull data from important and varying sources, and using that data in something useful and applicable to recent events is a very valuable skill.

What we learned

We gained a lot of experience in developing our own APIs, data collection, and front end web development. Integrating Flask, React, Figma and other resources into a single project is a valuable skill.

What's next for Apollo

We plan to flesh out and improve the data and analysis we provide. Giving more statistical analysis and showing correlation between the metrics we provide and the activity of a stock would make our program much more valuable.
