Inspiration

When that time comes around when you select your courses, especially your APs, it can get a little nerve-wracking. APs are harder than regular school courses; they require more effort and studying. That's why we created AP Info. From our own experiences with course selection, we know how beneficial it is to be informed of what an AP entails before diving into it.

What it does

AP Info connects students around the country with those who are interested in taking the same courses. With its two main features, comments, and resources, students form a community of link-minded learners and can share tips, tricks, and resources for APs.

How we built it

We built this website using Firebase to handle authentication and also for the database to handle comments and resources. We also used OpenAI's ChatGPT to generate resources for each of the AP Courses, textbooks, websites, online teachers, etc...

Challenges we ran into

Building this website was not without its challenges, the hardest parts were deploying the app to Vercel, where we had some issues with our environment variables, and optimizing the app so that the resource pages would not be as laggy (the resources pages had to pull upwards of 20 fields from Firebase for each AP Course).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of this website, and we are even more proud of the fact that we were able to finish it within a week (it seemed like a daunting challenge, and at times we never thought we would finish).

What we learned

In this hackathon, we learned lots of valuable information about Firebase, NextJS, and also just how impactful technology can be on education.

What's next for AP Info

We hope to spread this website around high schools in the US; we are looking at dropping the link in the AP Students Discord server.
