Problem Statement

Imagine you are a first-year student at UC Davis. Moving to a new place can feel overwhelming, especially for students and newcomers. Whether you're an international student, a young professional, or just someone looking to expand your social circle, loneliness and social anxiety can be major obstacles. That is why we have AMIGOS!

Alex is a first-year Computer Science student at UC Davis. He recently moved from his hometown to start his studies, leaving behind his family, friends, and everything familiar. The excitement of a new beginning quickly turned into feelings of loneliness and insecurity.

During his first week, Alex struggled to adjust. He walked around campus, seeing groups of students laughing and socializing, but he felt too shy to approach anyone. He wanted to make friends but wasn’t sure how to start a conversation. The fear of being awkward or not fitting in made him hesitant.

In the evenings, Alex often stayed in his room, missing home. He looked up events happening in Davis but didn’t feel comfortable going alone. The thought of standing by himself in a crowd of strangers made him anxious, so he avoided social gatherings altogether. As the days passed, his isolation grew, and he wished there was an easier way to connect with people who felt the same way.
