Inspiration

Emergencies are unpredictable, and not everyone has quick access to help. In many scenarios, slow response times, lack of awareness, and inability to share real-time location make emergencies deadlier than they should be. Ally was inspired by the need for a reliable, intelligent, and accessible emergency companion that empowers users to get help fast, stay connected, and stay safe.

What it does

Ally is a smart emergency response and personal safety companion that:

Instantly sends distress alerts to emergency contacts
Shares real-time GPS location with precision data powered by Google Maps API
Connects users to first responders based on region, powered by Google Maps API
Allows discreet triggering (e.g., shake phone, power button press)
Stores medical info, allergies, and contacts for better intervention
Optimizes battery use during emergencies
AI-powered search

How we built it

Flutter for cross-platform mobile support (iOS & Android)
Django + DRF for the backend API
Google Maps Platform for real-time location, reverse geocoding, emergency route suggestions, and nearby facilities
PostgreSQL for structured data storage
Firebase AI Logic for AI-enhanced context engine (in progress) for situational assistance

Challenges we ran into

Handling low-connectivity scenarios
Persistent on-device caching for underserved and offline locations.
Optimizations for battery drain.
Coming up with an intuitive UI.
Creating a flexible data model for a diverse set of first responders
