Inspiration
Many people believe that they need to be wealthy and rich in order to invest and have some form of financial literacy. Financial Advisors can help with your personal finances however, some may not be able to afford one because of how much they cost. The name "allvisor" is Financial Advisors for all, no matter their ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status. Providing this service for free for people who earn less than 200,000 a year helps people who are hesitant and stigmatized by the "investing is only for the rich" to try out investing and saving to better help their financial goals and plans. We felt that some of the Robo-advisors online were not personalized enough and that many people would not trust the robots, so we also incorporated real-life financial advisors as well.
What it does
We at Allvisor believe that personal is integral and that everyone should be able to have access to these tools and advice, no matter their ethnicity and socioeconomic status. Allvisor's financial advisors can help you identify the best investments for your risk tolerance and goals. They help you make strategic financial decisions when life’s unexpected events come calling. Additionally, our Advisors can help you identify ways to take advantage of available tax savings. We plan out your finances at any stage of life, so that you don't have to worry about a thing. Moreover, due to the fact that we are targeting people who are hesitant in investing, if they are not comfortable with a Robo-type advisor, we also offer real-life financial advisors free of charge. It helps budget and plans out finances including taxes, as well as trade for you. Allvisor also provides financial tools such as net worth, savings planner, retirement planner, and many more.
How we built it
We built the front of the website using plain HTML and CSS. The backend of the website is built on Node.JS and express.JS. We use express.js to call the data from the twelvedata api and connect this data to the front end of our website.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge that we ran into building this website was that in order to create the graph on our dashboard page, we needed to use the canvas HTML tag. Neither of us had experience before using this tag, so we tried to use a JavaScript alternative, chart.js. However, we could not figure out how to effectively use chart.js to make the chart. Thus, in order to finish our chart, we both had to spend time learning how to use the canvas tag in html.
Another challenge that we ran into was the the lack of time to complete our project. Initially, we couldn't think of any ideas for an impactful project. When there was only 10 hours left in the hackathon, we finally thought of the idea to make Allvisor. This put a challenge on us to build the website with very limited time.
What we learned
We learned how to use the canvas tag on html to make graphics like charts. We also learned how to send information from our express backend to our front end.
What's next for Allvisor
Integrating a market for financial advisors to connect with clients. Integrating real time investment data from banks.
