Inspiration

We were inspired by our good friend, Donald, the dev director at nwPlus. Despite the large size of the club, he goes out of his way to connect with others who he may not normally interact with in the regular workflow. However, we recognized that not everyone has the opportunity to be this outgoing. Thus, we created this app to hopefully help alleviate the stress of networking and meeting new people.

What it does

Users can fill personal information such as MBTI personality, location, and interests, to be matched with like-minded people in their organization or group. This should help promote connection between would be strangers, and help expand peoples networks without pushing their social batteries too far.

How we built it

We used React, JavaScript, Firebase, Node, and the Google Places API.

Challenges we ran into

As it was many of our first times working with Firebase or the Google Places API, we understandably ran into issues with set up and deployment. This mostly included how to find and read the documentation to perform the commands we wanted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we managed to learn and successfully use Firebase and Google Placces API. It's always a challenge learning new things in the tight timeframe of a hackathon, so we're very happy that we created a full-stack application.

What we learned

We learned how to use Firebase and the Google Places API in a web application. We also learned how to plan our ideas and pipeline before jumping right into development, as well as managing our time wisely.

What's next for Alloy

We'd like to add the ability to find, join, and leave organizations. We'd also want to add schedule helpers to help choose the date and time of the hangout.
