Inspiration

Working through documents is tiring and time-consuming. Often the information necessary to understand the document is missing. Then you have to switch to another application to convert currencies, look up legal texts, check data, or search for company information. This is time-consuming and leads to confusion. Our goal is to make the process of working through documents fast and efficient.

What it does

AiLaw provides you all the information you need directly in your documents. No more Windows switching. You can easily access the information by selecting the appropriate passage in the document. Supporting not only Word and PDF formats but all selectable texts. For example, click on a date and see directly what day of the week it was and how many days/years it is in the past or future, e.g. for the day of birth.

How we built it

Mostly with sleep deprivation. But Red Bull was giving us wings. We used python and the UI-framework Kivy and of course the Logitech Input Device Monitor SDK for smooth inputs. All combined with different AI-based services for the "brain" part.

Challenges we ran into

What challenges did we not run into? We had them all. Even the ones fixable with turning the computer off and on again.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An awesome simplistic concept for use. First Hackathon time for Katja. First time for all of us, that we were working on-site and remote as a team. Consummation of astonishing amounts of sugar and caffeine. An application to use for our daily work, even considering we're far off judiciary topics.

What we learned

That we are a hell of a team <3 And that you can accomplish anything with the right people and the right mindset.

What's next for AILAW

The app can be used in many different industries and will facilitate the work of many professional groups. The AI "brain" part should be reworked into a plugin-based concept and maybe made configurable.
