Inspiration

Insurance agents are the foundation of many financial services, but their commissions can be lost due to chargebacks and unpredictable client actions. Our team wanted to solve a pressing fintech problem by protecting commission payouts and offering greater stability and peace of mind to agents and agencies. The Best Capital One Hack prompt inspired us to rethink how smart automation and transparent dashboards could bring clarity and security to this part of the industry.

What it does

Aegis is a web-based fintech solution that automatically places a portion of agent commissions in a secure vault, then releases funds gradually as the risk of chargeback declines. Users can view their earnings, risk scores, and payout schedules in real time through clear dashboards. Agents and agencies alike benefit from increased transparency and financial security.

How we built it

We built Aegis as a responsive web application using modern development frameworks and rapid prototyping tools. Our team collaborated in real time with GitHub for version control and adopted Shadcn dashboard designs for inspiration. We created interactive views for both agents and agency managers, making the experience intuitive for different types of users. Mock data was used to simulate commission trends and risk events.

Challenges we ran into

Making our idea resonate with real users was a tough first step. We struggled to balance the business side and the technical side, ensuring that insurance agencies and individual agents both had clear benefits while keeping the core functions easy to use.

Designing the progressive vesting and vaulting model required us to learn quickly about how financial risk actually works in commission-based sales. Translating industry rules into simple code logic made us revisit and refine our approach multiple times.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We delivered a working prototype with a professional and cohesive appearance within the hackathon period. Two distinct experiences were created, one for agents and one for agency leaders. Our team implemented logic for vaulting and progressive payout schedules in a way that could be extended to work with real financial data. As a team at our first hackathon, we are proud of our teamwork and adaptability.

What we learned

We learned that sometimes the best ideas come from just starting and figuring things out as you go. Trusting tools like Github Copilot helped us move faster and discover coding tricks we would not have tried on our own.

What's next for Aegis

We want to go beyond mockups and turn Aegis into a truly interactive tool for real agents and agencies. Integrating APIs like Capital One’s Nessie will allow us to use live transaction and account data, making commission tracking and protection automatic.

Expanding the platform with more user controls, such as adjusting risk settings or simulating different chargeback scenarios, will help users customize Aegis for their specific needs. We are excited to enhance our dashboards with deeper analytics and to include notifications that will alert users to important events in real time.

Next steps also include making Aegis accessible on mobile devices and exploring applications in other industries with commission-based income. We hope to open source the core features, so others can build on our ideas and make commission management safer everywhere.

We look forward to learning from user feedback and growing this project into something that creates lasting value in the world of fintech.
