Inspiration

At GMU, academic advising is hard to access because there are over 40,000 students and a limited number of advisors. I’ve experienced long wait times and delayed responses to basic advising questions. Advisor.AI was inspired by the need to give students fast, reliable answers while reducing pressure on human advisors.

What it does

Advisor.AI uses Patriot.AI, powered by NebulaOne, to provide instant academic guidance to students. It helps answer common advising questions, explains degree requirements, assists with course planning, and directs students to the right campus resources. Advisor.AI starts at GMU, but it is designed to scale and support students at other colleges and universities as well.

How we built it

We built Advisor.AI by integrating Patriot.AI, powered by NebulaOne, as the core intelligence behind the system. We also created a clean, easy-to-use webpage to market the tool and explain its value. The system was designed with scalability in mind so it can be adapted to different universities and advising structures.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was ensuring the AI provides accurate and responsible guidance without replacing human advisors. Another challenge was clearly communicating the idea on a single webpage. We also had to carefully define boundaries so students know when to reach out to a human advisor.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we created a solution that solves a real problem at GMU while also being expandable to other institutions. Building Advisor.AI with Patriot.AI powered by NebulaOne and presenting it through a professional webpage shows its potential beyond a single campus.

What we learned

We learned that AI is most effective when it supports people rather than replaces them. We also learned how important clear communication, trust, and ethical design are when building AI for education. Designing for scale helped us think beyond GMU to higher education as a whole.

What's next for Advisor.AI

Next, we plan to integrate official GMU advising data and improve personalization features like degree tracking and reminders. After proving success at GMU, we aim to expand Advisor.AI to other colleges and universities that face similar advising challenges.
