Inspiration

When we unpacked at our last competition, we forgot our monitor power cable for our second monitor. When we unpacked at this competition, we forgot toothbrushes and pajama shorts and nearly forgot our glasses. We would probably forget our heads if they weren't attached! No matter what event we pack for, it always seems like we forget something and don't realize it until we are there. This is where Adventure Awaits comes in. Your assistant for perfect packing! Adventure Awaits prepares you for numerous different events that you could attend. By providing you with a stock checklist of the necessary materials you could require for the event. This way, you never forget what's important. On top of preparing you for what everyone needs, our lists are customizable to your specific needs. If you have any special medications or lucky socks, you can add them to the list so you don't forget! With Adventure Awaits, perfect planning goes from pandemonium to peaceful and you never forget anything again!

What it does

How we built it

We used Blockstack to get the app up and running very quickly. From there, we made designs for the user interface and realized what technologies we wanted to use in our tech stack. We used Blockstack to create users and MongoDB to verify and store the user's tasks.

Challenges we ran into

We had some trouble making the front-end of the application behave the way we wanted it to. For example, a lot of the buttons did bizarre things like not changing color when on the overlay or changing the color somewhere outside of the tag it lives in. We argued for a bit at the beginning about what language we were going to write the app in, but we finally decided to used javascript and HTML.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We wanted to learn new software and Blockstack was something that we wanted to try out.

What we learned

We learned how to use Blockstack to make a quick startup app and verify users using MongoDB and storing user information in the database. We also learned new styles and better ways to create beautify user experiences.

What's next for Adventure Awaits

Going forward with Adventure Awaits, we are looking to add more popular event checklists that our users attend such as music festivals, slumber parties, and college. Additionally, we are looking at adding a calendar feature that allows you to schedule when you need to have certain items packed by so you have everything packed on time for your event and are not scrambling at the last minute.
