Adventure Assistant

Inspiration

• Well, instead of asking multiple questions for weather, to bring list, and the news, I want a skill that can do all that while I am preparing to go out.
• In addition, going out to work every day is sometime boring. Therefore, I want to make every trip outside is a good adventure.

What it does

• Right now, it has 3 main features: => Remind items to bring before going out => Get the headlines news => Inform about the weather

Challenges I ran into

• New sdk (ask-sdk v2) comes out right when I was doing research about how to use the sdk, so sample codes are being updated to the new syntax.
• I didn't start working on this project until the last week while working full time. There are a lot of research I have had to make in order to understand how to write an Alexa skill, and I don't have enough time to create the video.
• I am not familiar with java script at all, there is no error checking until it crashes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

• I did made a skill that is useful, except there bug.

What I learned

• I learn that writing Alexa skill can get really messy, but it is quite fun.
• Simplify the project so that I can have a complete project.
• I will use typescript to implement an Alexa Skill project

What's next for Adventure Assistant

• fix bugs for sure

Future feature:

• Let user choose what they want to hear, not just 3 fixed contents
• Add traffic notification
• Be more informative when telling about the weather
• Add restaurant recommendation at the destination location
